Solar-Car Racing Images from FiO

13. October 2009

By Patricia Daukantas

OPN Managing Editor Christina Folz took these photos at Sunday's inaugural heat of the OSA International Student Chapter Solar Car Race. We all hope this will become an annual event at OSA's annual meeting.

In the above photo, entrants are awaiting their turn at the starting line.

Above, OPN Contributing Editor François Busque makes sure the light is at the right height for one of the entries.

Finally, here are the winners of Sunday’s preliminary round. From left: Jean-Simon Corbeil, who gave his car an adjustable-height Fresnel lens to concentrate light on the solar cell; Jeremy Dickerson, who mounted the solar cell on an inverted plastic cup; and Veronique Zambon, who embellished her car with the name of her OSA student chapter.

Once again, don’t forget to check back Tuesday for the final round of this exciting competition! And thanks to Christina for sharing these photos.
